Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts

  • Status: Retired
  • Cost: ~$60
  • Made and worn in 2011

I will be the first to admit that Baka and Test is a dumb show. It was one of those shows that had I not seen it in a college anime club setting, I probably would not have enjoyed it as much. Also, the show has a lot of offensive "jokes" about gender, and the "trap" stuff in it makes me very angry now.

That said, I always really liked Hideyoshi. He's a pretty guy, and since my partner in cosplay, Kikukachan, wanted to be Yuuko, we decided to be twins!

I thrifted my blazer from the boys' section, so that it would close on the correct side. I added the yellow bias tape and attached black bias tape to an old white button-up shirt. These pants were the first ones I had ever made, and oh boy, it was a mistake to use a free pattern. The sizing was all wrong, and I didn't know what I was doing, so it was a mess of seams on my rear. (Nobody could tell with the blazer on, luckily.) The pants also ripped in the crotch as soon as I put them on the morning of the convention. So much tragedy for this costume.

My favorite part of the costume are the ties. Kikukachan made them, and they turned out great. The ties in the show are short and stubby, and she got the shape perfectly. She also made a stencil for the school crest on the tie and the blazer.
